About John:
Whilst still at school John became a SWL and started to build an amateur TV station.

He got his first license, G6ACD/T, in 1966, followed shortly by his current callsign. That gave him the "bug" for operating, though he has always kept his interest in equipment design and construction. He has operated on most bands from microwaves down to 73kHz.

In recent years he has concentrated on HF, collecting 198 DXCC confirmed countries from a modest home station.

John is a "newbie" on the team to DXpedition operating. The enjoyment of Field Days and portable operations from his youth has created a long-held ambition to join a DXpedition, to experience and learn first-hand about DX operating from the "other end"!

John is active in the RSGB having served on the HF Committee since 1996 where he currently chairs the organising committee for the RSGB International HF & IOTA Convention and also the 5MHz Working Group. In addition John is IARU LF Coordinator for Region 1, supporting the development of the 136kHz band.
John is an engineer who is adjusting the work-life balance by having left corporate life 18 months ago to start up a small consultancy.

He lives with his wife, Ali, in Buckinghamshire but they spend a lot of their time walking in Derbyshire and Norfolk.
