Bob started short wave listening at the age of 11, back in 1971. The
following year he was co-opted onto the Committee of the Derby and District
Amateur Radio Society (UK). Bob enjoyed his apprenticeship years of short
wave listening and learnt a lot!
After obtaining his Class B call as G1BBX in 1983, he obtained his Class A
call, G4YOX the following year. After studying and getting married, Bob’s
work took him to live and work in Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. Bob
became GU4YOX in 1990 enjoying pile-ups any time of the day !
With over 270 all time countries worked, Bob specializes in low band work
and his home 160M antenna system sits on over 4000 feet of radials. Bob
says, “There are never enough radials to be laid!” In the 2002 Stew Perry
160 Meter Distance Challenge, Bob secured World 1st - Single Operator Low
Power. He is at home with CW or Phone and he always relishes that new
Bob is a Professional Engineer and manages key business areas in Guernsey
Married to his Italian wife, Maria Antonietta, they enjoy life with their
two daughters in Guernsey. Bob also speaks fluent Italian, great for those
more challenging Pile Up situations !
Bob also enjoys house renovation, wine making and Half Marathon running.
