of the Day:Nigel, G4KIU updating the web pages Live on the web Perhaps unique to 3B9C, the DXpedition web site has been updated every day live from the island. Webmaster Nigel, G4KIU reviews the best stories of the day, for publication on the web. This can include details of significant contacts, through to items of fun and humour. Pictures also form an important part of the daily updates, which means pressing the digital camera into action several times a day. The pages are edited, usually standing up, using Microsoft Front Page 2003, with pictures edited in PaintShop Pro. The completed pages are then ready for upload using WS-FTP-Pro, from Ipswitch. That is the easy part! We have a dedicated telephone line in the IT room, which is used to dial into the local ISP in Port Mathrin, some ten miles away. From Rodrigues, there are two 56k lines to Mauritius. Connections are fairly reliable, but are very slow indeed. The fastest connection we have achieved, is 24k. Updating the web site can, therefore, take a considerable time. QSO count: By Friday 2 April at 19:00z, there were 121.500 QSOs in the log. Go to Sunday -> |
