of the day:Base of an 80m vertical, showing the arrangement of earth mats. Each vertical has four mats, made from rolls of fencing. We have the same arrangement on the 160m vertical. 160m and 80m Operation We recognise that our new policy of having a single operator covering both 160 and 80 during the night time period may result in problems for some people, especially mid-west USA stations. As we do not have sufficient operators to separately cover both bands at all times, we suggest that you call in on 80m and request a QSY to 160m. Please do not request a QSY unless you believe that there is a good chance of making a QSO. All LF operators have been asked to accommodate these requests whenever practical. Duplicate QSOs - important We are experiencing an unacceptably high level of duplicate QSOs. One person who should perhaps remain nameless has worked us 11 times on just one band/mode slot! This is inconsiderate operating because it deprives others, who have yet to make any QSOs, of the opportunity to work us. Please make use of the on-line logs and if your callsign is shown for a band/mode slot, do not call us again. Obviously, if you thought that you did work us but you are not in the on-line log within 36 hours then you should work us again. EME
OperationWe made a further three EME QSOs in the last 24 hours, bringing the total for the DXpedition to six QSOs. This time it was the turn of OZ4MM, UA3PTW and OE9ERC to make it into the log. Congratulations to all. Band Conditions Conditions have been very poor for the past two days and we are finding the higher band closed for much of the time. We can only hope that conditions will improve soon. We recommend that everyone performs a 10 minute Sundance at dawn and dusk. The lunchtime Sundance is optional but every little helps. At the very least, the exercise will do you good! RTTY & PSK We will continue with RTTY and, increasingly, PSK operations on all bands that are open. You can help us to make QSOs with as many people as possible by listening carefully and NOT calling out of turn. All this does is to slow down the QSO rate and reduce the chances of making a QSO. The 3B9C operators will not respond to people who call out of turn, so there is no point in spoiling it for others. QRP Requests We have received a few e-mails demanding that we amend logs to show /QRP. We are aware that some operators at 3B9C have been logging /QRP but it is DXpedition policy that we do not do so. /QRP does not form part of the legal callsign in any country and, as far as we are aware, no QRP awards require the callsign to be suffixed with /QRP. Therefore the /QRP suffix has no place in the 3B9C DXpedition log. You know whether you worked us on QRP or not and that should be all that is needed. 6m
OperationTim, G4VXE has now joined the team and will be focussing on 6m and data modes. In addition, he is assisting G3WGV with maintaining the substantial data network used to link all the stations, servers and monitors. Go to Tuesday -> |
