About Chris:
Chris started short wave listening in the early 1950s, on the Broadcast and Amateur bands, and became interested in Amateur Radio. Member Petersfield and District ARC.

Operated Service Radios in Cadets.

When in Southwest during National Service was a member of Plymouth ARC.

Licensed January 1959. Member Cambridge U.W.S (G6UW).

Went with other CUWS Members on his first "expeditions" to GD in 1961 and 1962, operated GD6UW and as GD3NHL, on VHF, and on HF with LG300/888A.

Like many at that time Chris was more interested in construction and the technical side of the hobby and operation was mainly with the local net to discuss same . Wrote various simple construction articles for Short Wave Magazine. Converted surplus "Command Sets" etc. for amateur use. Built phasing type and crystal filter type valved SSB transmitters. Experimented with HF Rhombics, but too low to be really effective.

Then little activity due to work for many years apart from 2m AM in 1967/68, and some 20m SSB 1970/73 - with home brew TX and quad aerial.

1991 when living in Guernsey interest in amateur radio was rekindled due to the infectious enthusiasm of members of GARS. Supported various activities with the club call GU3HFN, and including GB50LIB in May 1995, celebrating 50 years after liberation from German Occupation.

1997 moved to Cornwall and started working DX on HF SSB - worked some 270 countries with wire aerials.

1997-2000 member Cornish RAC, supported annual Marconi Day GB4IMD.

1998 joined CDXC.

2000-2003 member Poldhu ARC, supported 100th Marconi anniversary in 2001, GB100GM.

2002 rejoined GARS as an "Overseas Member".
